With the development of endoscopic minimally invasive surgery in China, the management of endoscopic minimally invasive medical technology and the technical capabilities of physicians will gradually improve. Against this backdrop, the Smart Digital Medical Evaluation Working Committee of the China International Association for the Promotion of Science and Technology (CIAPST), with the support and guidance of CIAPST and the Institute of Science and Technology Research of the National Health Commission, held the Seminar on the Evaluation of Endoscopic Minimally Invasive Surgeon Skills in Beijing on November 24, 2024.
At the seminar, Deputy Director Guo Ji'er-ti from the Institute of Science and Technology Research of the National Health Commission highly recognized the positive impact of the seminar. He emphasized that by establishing an evaluation system for physicians, the hierarchical medical service system in China could be further implemented, paving the way for future pricing in the healthcare service system. The evaluation of endoscopic minimally invasive surgeons should consider practical realities and aim to develop group standards for the future. He also suggested leveraging the characteristics of China’s clinical data to develop proprietary artificial intelligence applications for evaluating endoscopic minimally invasive surgeons.
Director Cui Zhiguo of CIAPST expressed CIAPST’s commitment to supporting the work of the Smart Digital Medical Evaluation Working Committee. He highlighted that CIAPST has already established over a thousand group standards and will assist the committee in developing group standards related to the evaluation of endoscopic minimally invasive surgeon skills.
Nearly 20 endoscopic minimally invasive experts specializing in general and gynecological surgery from across the country attended the seminar. The experts reached a consensus that the evaluation of endoscopic minimally invasive surgeons should be introduced as soon as possible. This initiative not only aims to establish a baseline for surgeons but also to support the growth and career development of more physicians. The experts thoroughly discussed the basic framework and approach for establishing the evaluation system and selected Professors Wang Qiusheng, Li Bin, Liu Jingshan, and Chen Jie to lead the development of physician evaluation criteria for six classic minimally invasive procedures in general and gynecological surgery.
The Smart Digital Medical Evaluation Working Committee awarded expert appointment certificates to the participating specialists. Chairman Xie Qilin of the committee summarized the meeting, stating that the promotion of the evaluation of endoscopic minimally invasive surgeons would be outcome-driven, aiming to help physicians realize their self-worth and ensure that patients receive effective medical care. Additionally, this work will provide technical support for health administration in quality control of endoscopic minimally invasive technology and refined management of physicians. Chairman Xie called for more experts, organizations, and institutions to participate in advancing the development of endoscopic minimally invasive technology.
